The memory's I have of an incident regarding prejudice always comes to particular workplace memories. There always seems to be oppression on women in leadership roles.
I work as an Assistant Director in a childcare environment and there are definitely comments made about being a woman in control.
I don't seem to understand the differences between men and women in leadership roles, although I can definitely understand the sexist comments, the logic behind the comments are what intrigues me the most. I believe there are definite points of consideration with women and leadership roles that people have yet to understand.
Hi Catherine! I am an AD as well, but I have not experienced any negativity based on my gender. I do know from working in the public school system that several of my colleagues had a gender principal preference. More than not they wanted to work under a male because they felt he would keep order better than a female. I personally did not understand their choice, but did not disrespect them for theirs. I have worked under both males and females and I have a personality preference, not gender. I hope things get better for you.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to this, especially being a woman in the childcare profession. Where I am employed if we have not seen the person who is picking up the child before, even if they are on the pick-up list, we are to check the id. Once we had this situation and the main claimed to be the father but he was the type of male that didn't think a woman should question him. He had to adjust to our world and he learned to abide by our rules which was something that you could tell he was not used to.
